Stearic acid is a saturated fatty acid with an 18- carbon chain. The IUPAC name is octadecanoic acid. It is a waxy solid & its chemical formula is C17H35COZH. Stearic acid, also known as octadecanoic acid, is basically one of the most common long-chain fatty acids. Stearic acid has a wide range of applications in many areas, including the cosmetics industry, rubber industry, food Refinery oil industry, pharmaceutical industry, and biomedical industry.
Applications
- It is also used as a base for producing emulsifiers, emollients, and other fatty acid components used as lubricants.
- It is also used as an ingredient in candles, plastics, dietary supplements, oil pastel and to soften rubber.
- A common ingredient in vegetable oil soaps, it is used to cure products.
- It can be used as a surfactant and a softening agent.
